JMJ's EncounterPRO Wins First Place Honors at TEPR

JMJ's EncounterPRO (R), a leading electronic medical record (EMR) and workflow system, captured first place in the category of ambulatory care EMR systems at the Toward an Electronic Patient Record (TEPR) 2000 conference held in San Francisco. The award was presented during a ceremony on May 9.

According to the Medical Records Institute and ARC Consulting Group, LTD, sponsors of the competition, the TEPR 2000 awards "were designed to recognize independent software vendors who best provide tangible benefits to healthcare organizations, caregivers, health professionals, and patients."

"It is a great honor to be chosen by such respected organizations and such a distinguished panel of judges," said JMJ CEO Jim Copenhaver. "This is the fourth major industry award that EncounterPRO has won in the past three years."

Judges included Mark Anderson, CEO of ARC Consulting Group; Charlene Marietti, editor of Healthcare Informatics; Howard Anderson, vice president, Health Data Management; Helene Guilfoy, consultant; Dr. Ross Martin, editor of Managed Care Interface; and Jon Bogen, consultant.

Vendors were judged on guidelines that included Business Benefits, Quality Improvement, Benefits to Patients, Use of Advanced Technologies, Compliance with Standards for Interoperability, and Provider Testimony. In addition, EMR ambulatory care systems were required to feature the following minimal components: point of care charting of Progress Notes, History Plus Physical, Physician Order Entry, and Results Reporting.

EncounterPRO features a Navigational Interface characterized by the absence of pull-down menus or windows-within-windows. The radical simplicity and easy configurability of this interface allows physicians and their staffs to use the product after one day--or less--of training. Ambulatory care physicians can then typically chart most patients--completely and comprehensively--in less than two minutes. In addition, EncounterPRO has an advanced workflow system that permits patient information to flow instantaneously from screen to screen throughout the office.

EncounterPRO utilizes touchscreens or pen computers; client-server or wireless thin client platforms; and Microsoft Windows NT, SQL Server 7.0 and ActiveX software.

JMJ Releases New EncounterPRO Build

JMJ Technologies, Inc. launched a major new release of JMJ's computer-based patient record (CPR) core product, EncounterPRO(R), this week. The Version 3.5 release features important improvements including history taking, a more powerful and flexible treatment list, and enhanced graphic capabilities.

"Our upgraded history-taking model represents a major step forward in serving ambulatory care," said Charles Webster, MD, vice president, medical informatics. "It is user controlled, touchscreen-enabled and, structured data, but it still allows a tremendous amount of free form and flexible data entry. Furthermore, the history questionnaires take customization of EncounterPRO to a new level."

The new build brings other enhancements to the product. While physicians are using a history, they can extend it "on the fly." Users can now create their own chief complaint pick lists and organize these pick lists into outlines. In addition, a single touch of the screen can retrieve the most relevant pick list from among many.
