Press Releases 1999

Atlanta, GA--Aug. 19, 1999--EncounterPRO, JMJ's award-winning computer-based patient record (CPR) and workflow system software for physicians' offices, has been named a finalist for the second year in a row in the annual Industry Solution Awards (ISA) for Healthcare competition sponsored by Microsoft Healthcare Users Group MS-HUG).

JMJ Technologies has developed an outstanding solution for ambulatory care that exemplifies simplicity and ease of use for physicians' offices," said Richard Noffsinger, worldwide group industry manager at Microsoft. "The application utilizes touchscreens or pen computers and a client-server platform embracing Microsoft BackOffice, SQL Server 7.0, and ActiveX for Healthcare."

Jim Copenhaver, JMJ CEO, credits EncounterPRO's award to its unique Navigational Interface and workflow system. According to Copenhaver, the easily configurable interface enables physicians and their staff to go online with the product after four hours or less of training. "Physicians can then typically chart most patients--completely and comprehensively--in less than one minute," said Copenhaver. In addition, EncounterPRO has an advanced workflow system that sends patient information instantaneously to office workgroups.

ISA finalists were selected from approximately 96 independent software vendors offering software solutions based on Microsoft technologies. Winners of each of the nine categories will be announced at a special awards presentation at MS-HUG's Fifth Annual Conference and Exhibition on Sept. 14 in San Diego, CA.

JMJ was also selected to present a session during the conference, entitled "Workflow in the Physician's Office--a CPR Strategy to Improve ROI." Speakers will be Charles Webster, MD, JMJ's Vice President of Medical Informatics, and Norcross, GA pediatrician, Jeffrey Cooper, MD.

Dr. Cooper beta-tested EncounterPRO for fourteen months in his solo practice, beginning in December 1995. In 1998 he grossed more than $1.2 million and was featured in a 1999 article in Medical Economics. Charting in his office has been paperless for over 33 months.

"We are unique to the industry in that all of our offices are paperless," said Copenhaver. "Besides serving pediatrics, the core product is also configured to the other primary care specialties. Physicians can use EncounterPRO either as a stand-alone system or integrated it with a billing/scheduling application."

Founded in 1994, JMJ is a privately-held company located in Marietta, GA.

JMJ Launches EncounterPRO for Family Practice at HIMSS

EncounterPRO
R for Family Practice, a computer-based patient record (CPR) and workflow system for ambulatory care, was formally launched at the recent HIMSS conference in Atlanta, Ga. Authored by Atlanta physician Stephen Schramm MD, the software uses SQL Server 7.0 as its relational database and imbeds Medcin, a nomenclature developed by Medicomp Systems, Inc., into its architecture.

Dr. Schramm, a family practice physician in Atlanta, demonstrated the product three weeks earlier at Northside Hospital. "Northside Hospital initiated its own computer program in October, 1998 to track patient census and test results," Dr. Schramm said. "Therefore interest in an office-based program was peaked. It's workflow system and simple screen format impressed the crowd."

A pediatric version of EncounterPRO is currently installed in seven states throughout the US. Configurations of other specialties, including Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Ob/Gyn, and Urology are underway. "We hope to release these new products by the end of June," said Kane St. John, Vice President of Business Development.

JMJ Releases New Build of EncounterPRO

JMJ Technologies, Inc. launched a major release of JMJ's computer-based patient record (CPR), EncounterPRO(R), at HIMSS last week. The 3.2 release features major improvements including Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, replication, integration with a voice recognition product, and the addition of Medcin, a data rich nomenclature from Medicomp Systems, Inc.

"The replication functionality drives the major changes in the software but remains transparent to users," according to Mark Copenhaver, chief product manager and developer. The replication feature allows an unlimited number of sites to exchange patient records over ordinary telephone lines.

In addition, the new build completes JMJ's migration to a "Component" architecture. "This allows JMJ customers to plug in custom and third party functionality seamlessly as though it were part of EncounterPRO," Mark said. Users and integrators can create new chart tabs, workflow services, screens, reports, and other components and use them from inside EncounterPRO. According to Copenhaver, the new release is also more streamlined and configurable than its predecessors, and the microphone and dictation capabilities have been enhanced.

EncounterPRO features a Navigational Interface characterized by the absence of pull-down menus or windows-within-windows. The radical simplicity and easy configurability of this interface allows physicians and their staffs to use the product after four hours--or less--of training. Ambulatory care physicians can then typically chart most patients--completely and comprehensively--in less than one minute.

In addition, EncounterPRO has an advanced workflow system that permits patient information to flow instantaneously from screen to screen throughout the office. The application utilizes touchscreens or pen computers and a client-server platform. EncounterPRO is compatible with Microsoft BackOffice, Microsoft SQL Server 6.5/7.0, and ActiveX.
