Cooper Pediatrics of Duluth GA Wins 2003 HIMSS Davies Award for Excellence Using JMJ’s EMR EncounterPRO®

Atlanta -- Nov.24, 2003 -- Cooper Pediatrics, a solo-practitioner office using EncounterPRO, an electronic medical record (EMR) from JMJ Technologies, is winner of the 2003 Davies Award for Excellence in ambulatory care. The Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) bestowed the high honor on Dr. Jeffrey D. Cooper for his 1995 implementation of an EMR into his high-volume Atlanta-area practice.

The main criterion of the HIMSS award is improvement in the delivery of patient care. Dr. Cooper’s Duluth office eliminated all chart-pulling, increased the immunization rate to 99 per cent and decreased call turnaround time to less than 20 minutes. Drug refill time decreased to 20 minutes, primarily due to the elimination of pulling paper charts. Charting time decreased from four minutes to one minute, giving Dr. Cooper more time with patients. Office wait time decreased from 60 to 35 minutes from check-in to check-out. His EMR electronically prints prescriptions. Except for scanning and storing documents, his office is paperless.

Dr. Cooper currently works with a part-time Physician’s Assistant and two part-time Nurse Practitioners. In 1995 his total number of patients numbered 3500 and his practice was closed to new patients. His office currently serves 12,000 active patients from all over North Georgia. In 2002, Dr. Cooper and his staff handled over 18,000 patient encounters. Over the past eight years, his total volume of patients increased by 255 percent.

“My solo practice provides proof that the migration to an electronic information system improves safety, the quality of healthcare delivery, patient and physician satisfaction, and billings,” Dr. Cooper wrote in his award-winning application to HIMSS. “The bottom line is crystal clear. In terms of operating a small business, how can a physician afford not to automate his practice?”

JMJ Technologies, Inc., creator of EncounterPRO, an Atlanta-based company founded in 1994, specializes in an electronic medical record fully integrated with a workflow management system. EncounterPRO features touchscreen/pen computer interfaces, radical configurability, digital camera interface, digital recording, signature capture, billing/scheduling integration, integration with major medical devices, and more. EncounterPRO has won nine other national awards for excellence, ease of use, and economic benefits, including first place from TEPR (Toward an Electronic Medical Record) and MS-HUG (Microsoft Healthcare Users Group).

JMJ Technologies Integrates Instant Medical History into EncounterPRO® EMR

JMJ Technologies, makers of EncounterPRO and a national leader in electronic medical records(EMRs), today announced an integration with Instant Medical History (IMH), software from Primetime Medical Software that allows patients to enter their medical history into the EMR before the encounter. The integration will be unveiled at the regional conference of the American Academy of Family Practice on Friday, Nov. 14.

“Instant Medical History has many positive effects on the physician’s practice,” says Michael Ferrante, Primetime Medical Software president. “Physician interviews with patients are more effective, transcription costs are lowered, dictation is eliminated, and documentation and coding are measurably improved,” say Michael Ferrante, Primetime Medical Software President.

“Instant Medical History adds an invaluable function to EncounterPRO,” says Kane St. John, JMJ COO. “IMH can now be called from within EncounterPRO--either automatically as part of a workplan or with the touch of a button in the patient’s chart--for the patient to complete. The results will automatically post into the appropriate fields of the patient’s chart in EncounterPRO.”

MidMark Diagnostics Group Signs Agreement with JMJ Technologies, Inc.

Digital ECG, Spirometer, and Holter Monitor Results Integrate with Patient Records

VERSAILLES, Ohio – (November 4, 2003) – Midmark Diagnostics Group today announced the signing of an agreement with JMJ Technologies, Inc. for the integration of Midmark’s digital ECG, Spirometer, and Holter Monitor with EncounterPRO®, JMJ Technologies’ electronic medical record (EMR).

The integration of the Midmark devices with JMJ’s software will streamline the workflow in the physician’s office, eliminate a source of data transcription errors and provide the physician with a unified view of patient diagnostic data that is always only a keystroke away. Physicians will be able to monitor the patient’s real-time results and later retrieve the data from EncounterPRO. Data can be e-mailed to referral physicians.

The integration of the IQmark devices provides dynamic functionality for JMJ as an EMR user,” said Michael Paquin, president of the Midmark Diagnostics Group. “This is just another way Midmark Diagnostics Group is promoting efficient patient care while eliminating redundant costs in medicine. The addition of JMJ as our partner positively changes the marketplace and process delivery of healthcare.” “This technology improves the physician access to diagnostic data, reduces costs and eliminates a possible source of bad data. This is an example where all stake holders benefit from a technology. It is truly a win-win-win for patients, physicians and insurance companies,” said JMJ Vice President of Product Management David Gregory.

AC Group Awards 5 Stars to JMJ in 3 out of 4 Provider Categories

AC Group Inc., a premier HIT industry consultant group led by CEO Mark Anderson, awarded JMJ Technologies 5 stars, their highest rating, in three categories in the newly-released 2003 Mid-Year EMR Survey. JMJ earned 5 stars for their EncounterPRO EMR's comprehensive functionalities serving practices with 1-4 providers, 5-15 physicians, and 16-49 providers.

"This survey shows that EncounterPRO 4.0 offers a superb array of functionalities for physician offices of any size," says Jim Copenhaver, CEO. "In fact, our functionalities will continue to increase. Many of our functionalities can be attributed to our workflow management system."

According to Mr. Anderson, "With the release of their new 4.0 version, JMJ Technologies is the "most improved" EMR vendor with an overall functionality increased from 58.0% in 2002 to 93.8% in 2003. Beginning with their new release, practices with 1 to 49 physicians should consider JMJ as one of their top 5 vendors".

The AC Group report is based on 18 months of research and the cumulative results of their 40-page questionnaire that included 3,463 questions about functionality divided into 23 categories and four methods of operations: desktop capability, wireless capability, remote access capability, and mobile capability. JMJ Rolls out Workflow Management System in EMR EncounterPRO® 4.0

JMJ Adds Dermatology to Product Line

JMJ Technologies Inc. announces today the successful roll-out of its recently released electronic medical record (EMR) and workflow management system, EncounterPRO® 4.0, in ten sites across the country.

“A workflow management system is very different from a workflow system,” explains Charles (Chuck) Webster, MD, MSIE, MSIS, VP of medical informatics for JMJ. “Very, very few EMRs actually have workflow management systems. JMJ is achieving the IOM vision of automating the physician’s office by giving physicians the tools to design sequences of screens to match their workflow patterns—that’s what only workflow management systems provide.”

EncounterPRO® 4.0 is now operational in sites in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia.

JMJ also announced today that it has increased its target market by 20 percent with the addition of Dermatology to its product line. JMJ currently targets the following specialties: Cardiology, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN and Pediatrics,

“These six specialties represent a significant percent of the ambulatory care market,” said CEO Jim Copenhaver. “We are going to aggressively pursue sales in all of these areas and anticipate further expansion into additional practice areas in the very near future.”

Additional specialties currently under development include Ophthalmology and Orthopedics.

About JMJ Technologies, Inc.

JMJ Technologies, Inc., of Marietta, GA, produces EncounterPRO®, a computer-based patient record for ambulatory care. EncounterPRO®’s advanced workflow management system—unique to the industry—permits patient information to flow instantaneously from screen to screen throughout the office. EncounterPRO® uses a Navigational Interface characterized by the absence of pull-down menus or windows-within-windows. The radical simplicity and easy configurability of this interface allows physicians and their staffs to use the product after a week—or less—of training and to rapidly enter data at the point of care. Ambulatory care physicians can chart patients—completely and comprehensively—in typically less than two minutes. The application utilizes touchscreens or pen computers on a client-server or thin client platform, wired or wireless. EncounterPRO® is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000 and SQL Server 2000. Additional information regarding EncounterPRO may be obtained by visiting the company's web site at http://www.jmjtech.com.
